Our Mission
USS Greeneville Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a lasting bond between the citizens of East Tennessee and the officers and crew of the USS Greeneville (SSN 772). As we celebrate a landmark year, we invite you to join us in honoring the “Greeneville Spirit.”
2026: A Year of Double Celebration
This year marks a historic convergence of milestones that define our community and our country:
- The 250th Anniversary of the United States: Celebrating the founding of our nation.
- The 30th Anniversary of the USS Greeneville’s Commissioning: Honoring three decades of service since the sub first joined the fleet in 1996.
We are planning several high-profile events to commemorate these anniversaries and welcome visitors to explore the rich naval history connected to our town.
How to Get Involved
1. Request a Speaker
We are proud to facilitate a “Veterans in Schools” program. Former crew members residing in the area are available to speak at:
- Local Schools (K-12 and College)
- Civic Groups and Rotary Clubs
- Community Gatherings
- Historical Societies
Our speakers share firsthand accounts of life aboard a nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine, the importance of STEM in naval technology, and the values of leadership and service.
2. Community Events & Hosting
USS Greeneville Inc. maintains an active presence at local festivals and commemorative events. We are always looking for partners to:
- Host Visiting Sailors: When crew members visit their namesake city, we coordinate local hospitality and tours.
- Event Partnerships: Invite us to set up an informational booth or a “Submarine Life” exhibit at your community event.
3. Fundraising and Donations
As a 501(c)(3) organization, your contributions are tax-deductible and directly support:
- Morale programs for the current crew of the USS Greeneville.
- Travel expenses for sailors visiting Greeneville for community outreach.
- Maintenance of local memorials and educational displays.
